L. Wood, Mrs. W. L. Wood of Rocky Face, Mrs. E. A. Duvall of Dalton; brothers, J. B. Scott of Chatsworth, A. A. Scott of Dalton; sisters, Mrs. H. A. Woodring of Ellijay, Mrs. W. S. Allen of Dalton, Mrs. James Abernathy of Canton; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Free Hope Baptist Church in Murray County. Interment was in Eton Cemetery with Kenemer Brothers Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Laura Ethel Powell SHIELDS, 72, died February 15, 1968 in Dalton, GA. Survivors include her husband, Conley Shields; daughter, Ruby Shields; nieces; nephews; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Maggie Hinkle Powell and Mrs. Jimmie Caylor Powell. Funeral services were held February 17, 1968 in the chapel of Stroup Funeral Home. Interment was in the Varnell Cemetery. Stroup Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Margaret Ellen Ellis SHIRLEY, 63, of Tucker, GA. died December 16, 2001. Margaret was the daughter of Homer Desmond "Des" Ellis and Edna Imogene "Gene" Green Ellis. She was born in Dalton, GA. on November 18, 1938 and was a 1956 Graduate of Dalton High School. Her BS and MS in Psychology were awarded from Georgia State University. Margaret retired in May 2001 as counselor at Agnes Scott College in Decatur. She is survived by her husband, John and daughter, Jan of Tucker; brother, Don, formerly of Dalton and sister, Lynda of Mableton, GA.; Nieces & Nephews, Paula of Decatur, Diane, Denise, and Donna Faye, of Dalton, Keith of Montana, Greg of Tucker and Jeff.

Former Resident Dies At Cohutta Saturday ~ Mr. J. M. Smith, who spent the greater part of his life in Gordon County, GA, near Hill City, died at his home near Cohutta, GA Saturday. He is survived by his wife and four sons, W. A. of Rome; D. E. of Cleveland; John of Rome, and Tom of Cohutta; one daughter, Mrs. V. D. Mitchell of Dalton. Funeral services were held from the Baptist church at Hill City Sunday afternoon at 3 ’o’clock, Rev. B. Bridges officiating. Clarence H. SOUTHER, 86, of Whitfield County, Dalton, GA, passed away November 14, 2003, in Chattanooga, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucius and Mary Richardson Souther; one sister, Ruth Souther; brother, Dennis Souther. Felton STONE, died at his home June 4, 1931. Funeral services for Mr. Felton Stone were held from Crown View Church Wednesday, by Rev. Welch. Interment was in West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Stone’s death occurred at his Atlanta home Monday, following a short illness. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Rtta Stone and following children, A. D. Stone, Bobbie Stone, R. L. Stone, all of Atlanta, Mrs. Alma Boalch of Rome, Henry Stone of the U. S. service, and the following brothers, J. O. Stone, Lon Stone, Sam Stone all of Dalton, Walter Stone, and Finn Stone both of Atlanta.

Richard Wesley STREETER, 63, of Cohutta, GA died March 29, 2002, in Dalton, GA. He was born May 31, 1938, in Battle Creek, MI. Mr. Streeter was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Jean Frazier; and his father, Richard W. Streeter Sr. Funeral services were April 1, 2002 in the chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev.
