Harris Pitsford Williams

Harris Pitsford Williams, (a twin)the tenth child of Elihu Williams and Lucinda Owens, was born on the 17th of July 1845, in Walker County, Georgia. In 1851, his father�s property was placed into Whitfield County, Georgia when knew county lines were drawn. His home was located near Dry Creek and the present State Highway 326 in the Trickum District (Lot Number 171 and the north half of Lot Number 172) in Whitfield County, Georgia.

Harris Pitsford Williams and two other brothers, Sexton R. (his twin), and James J., served in Company A, 36th Regiment (Broyles�) Georgia Infantry during the Civil War. The three brothers fought in the battle of Champion Hill (Baker�s Creek) in Mississippi on the 16th of May 1863, and again in the bombardment of Vicksburg from May until the 4th of July 1863. All three were captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on the 4th of July 1863 and released on the 9th of July 1863.

Harris Pitsford Williams married Amanda J. Freeman on the 5th of February 1864, in Whitfield County, Georgia. He moved his family to Trion, Georgia in 1878 where he worked as a Wagoner for the Trion Factory. He died on the 1st of August 1888 in Memphis, Tennessee at the Ball Knob Depot. He was laid to rest at Penn�s Chapel in Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia.

Harris Pitsford Williams and Amanda J. Freeman Williams had the following ten children:

  • 1 ~ John Williams, born 1865, in Whitfield County, Georgia, died 18 April 1866.
  • 2 ~ Virginia Idilla Etta Emma George Williams, born 25 May 1867, in Whitfield County, Georgia.
  • 3 ~ Artimus Augustus Harrison Williams, born 25 August 1869, in Whitfield County, Georgia.
  • 4 ~ Nancy Lucindy Williams, born 12 December 1871, in Whitfield County, Georgia.
  • 5 ~ Doctor George Harlan Williams, born 8 March 1873, in Whitfield County, Georgia.
  • 6 ~ Atory Mary Elizabeth Williams, born 31 August 1875, in Whitfield County, Georgia.
  • 7 ~ James Bogart Lester Williams, born 5 February 1877, in Whitfield County, Georgia; died 8 August 1880 in Trion, Georgia; buried Trion Cemetery.
  • 8 ~ Judson Clemons Williams, born 14 June 1881, in Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia.
  • 9 ~ Jessie Deforest Williams, born 18 December 1883, in Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia.
  • 10 ~ Charley Williams, born 14 July 1886, in Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia.
